History

The Jennifer Pellinen Transgender Flag represents transgender people—those whose gender identity does not match the sex they were assigned at birth. Jennifer Pellinen designed it in 2002 as an early alternative symbol while the transgender community was still gaining visibility, but Monica Helms' 1999 pink, blue, and white design ultimately became the more widely recognized trans flag. Pellinen's design remains historically significant as one of the early efforts in transgender vexillology. The colors are blue, purple, magenta, pink, and magenta.
