History
Nonbinary people are those whose gender is not strictly male or female—it may be both, neither, or something else. The original nonbinary flag was designed by Kye Rowan in 2014 with four horizontal stripes: yellow for gender outside the binary, white for all genders, purple for a blend of male and female, and black for those without gender. This square variant keeps the same colors and meaning but is shaped to work as a profile picture or avatar on social media. The colors are yellow, white, purple, and black.
