History

The Demisexual Flag is a community-created pride flag representing demisexuality, a sexual orientation characterized by experiencing sexual attraction only after forming a strong emotional bond with another person. Designed within online LGBTQ+ communities during the 2010s, the flag emerged as part of the broader asexual spectrum community's efforts to represent diverse experiences of sexuality and attraction. The design features horizontal stripes in white, gray, black, and purple. The white stripe represents sexuality, gray represents the spectrum between sexual and asexual, black represents asexuality, and purple represents community. The flag gained recognition through LGBTQ+ forums, social media, and community events as demisexuality became more widely discussed and understood. Like many newer pride flags, it was developed organically by community members rather than by a single credited designer, reflecting the collaborative nature of modern pride vexillology.
